Our Approach

We offer real-world, tested methods to get results right away. Learn a new concept and apply it the same day.

Our approach follows our LEAD Forward model of learning:

  • Learn Reality: Understand the work, people, data, constraints, and current condition.

  • Establish Direction: Set priorities, expectations, ownership, measures, and standards.

  • Align and Engage: Communicate, coordinate, involve people, and remove obstacles.

  • Deliver and Develop: Follow through, review results, improve the system, and build capability.

We don't dwell on theory. Instead, we offer models and solutions that work. Learn it, try it, adopt it, and see the results.

Run the Work is Part 1 of our Operational Manager Series. We start with the foundational parts a manager needs to learn quickly, implement immediately, and hit the ground running with practical solutions. Learning outcomes include some of the following:

  • Distinguish their former technical role from their management role

  • Identify the outputs their team exists to produce

  • Establish the team’s most important priorities

  • Define what “done right” means

  • Build a basic daily and weekly management cadence

  • Conduct a concise operational huddle

  • Separate urgent activity from high-value management work

  • Delegate outcomes rather than merely assigning tasks

  • Clarify ownership, authority, and checkpoints

  • Improve handoffs between people and departments

  • Determine the appropriate degree of follow-up

  • Avoid both micromanagement and abandonment

  • Establish a reliable escalation process

  • Convert discussion into clear commitments

  • Track ownership without creating excessive bureaucracy

  • Distinguish a system, capability, capacity, and commitment problem

  • Address missed expectations earlier

  • Conduct a concise accountability conversation

  • Build a personal 30-day management-improvement plan

  • Application & Implementation best practices

UNLIKE OTHER TRAINING

If your first thought was: "Ugh! Another boring class!" I'm happy to say you'll be disappointed. Our programs are not like most. We believe that you should:

  • Apply what you learn - immediately - not later. We expect you to use it now.

  • Improve your knowledge, skill, and results. Management is about action.

  • Share what you learn with others. You learn best when you teach...so share it!

  • Engage in learning, not just sit there. You have a lot to contribute.

  • Learn by doing. It's the best way to learn.

  • Get a return on your investment. This training needs to generate value.

These are bold statements, but our approach has been used long enough for us to be confident in the results. However, you get out of this course what you put into it.

This program combines classroom learning, engagement, reading, online content (e.g., videos and articles), and some homework. Between sessions, you'll be expected to implement what you learn and report back on the results. Along the way, we'll provide feedback, coaching, and tools that will enable you to grow and succeed as a manager.

COURSE OUTLINE

Here is how it works...

  • Live Online Sessions - Tuesdays at 8:30 a.m. for four weeks. You'll have a LIVE instructor and see the others in the virtual classroom. We'll interact and share new ideas just like a regular classroom.

  • Resources - We can't cover it all in 2 hours a week, so we offer additional resources for you to learn more. You'll have access to videos, articles, and tools to help implement your plan.

  • Accountability - Your facilitator is also your coach. He'll check in on you to see how you're doing, answer questions, and serve as a resource for your learning.

Over four sessions, we'll cover:

  • Running the Work
The manager's job is to get work done through other people. We'll identify the best ways to prioritize, manage, and enable success at all levels.

  • Create Ownership

When you enable your team, you expand your capability to get work done. Delegation doesn't happen naturally. There are tools and processes to develop others, hand off work, manage projects (without micromanaging), and create accountability.

  • Feedback, Follow-Through, and Outcomes
Accountability is developed over time. Managers must recognize best practices to align performance, clarify expectations, give feedback, and deliver results.

  • Execution, Accountability, and Success
Building a successful results-based model requires systems and processes. We identify best practices to implement plans, ensure they are completed, and follow through at all levels for optimal results.

WHAT IS LEADERSHIP?

wade

I've spent a lifetime exploring that question.

It seems almost elusive and philosophical to the point that some consider it impractical, illogical, and even impossible.

Can leadership really make a difference?

Does it really impact the bottom line?

Can I really measure the outcomes of good vs bad leadership?

As a lifelong learner, I've sought the answer...from books, lectures, conferences, speakers, videos, interviews, experiences, inspiration, and even a doctorate in leadership studies.

What did I learn?

Despite all of our accumulated "knowledge" on leadership, we are just barely recognizing its true impact.

We have a long way to go to truly understand leadership.

Is leadership power? Yes...

Is leadership service? Yes...

Is leadership influence? Yes...

Is leadership results? Yes...

Is leadership love? Yes...

Is leadership success? Yes...

All of the above. None of the above. And so much more!

The TRUE definition of leadership comes from WITHIN.

You must define leadership for yourself as part of your journey.

What do YOU want?

Why do YOU want it?

Answer these questions first...then we can work together to build the strategy that guides us through the "how" to achieve them.
